Have a safe week, savor the next 9 days and see you February 25th. I will be out of the office until February 24th, 2013.
Kindergarten registration is in full swing. Please pick up a registration packet for your incoming Kindergartner at the front office between 7:30 and 3:30. It will need to be returned by March 15 with supporting documents to guarantee a spot in your neighborhood school. Do not delay – our numbers are climbing and we need to plan for next year!
Gate Presentation for parents
Taming the Worry Monster: Anxiety and the Gifted Student
March 7th, 2013
Miller Creek Middle School
Gaining a better understanding of the “why” of your child’s behavior is often the first step toward helping your child maximize his or her potential. This presentation is really just a guide to gaining a comprehensive understanding of your child and providing a road-map for making parenting and school decisions.
Presented by Daniel B. Peters, Ph.D.
He is the Co-founder and Clinical Director of the Summit Center, specializing in the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents, and families with special emphasis on gifted, talented, and creative individuals and families. Dr. Peters’ clinical interests include overcoming anxiety, and helping gifted individuals achieve their developmental potential.
If you are the parents of a child in 1st, 2nd or 3rd grade and you thik he/she is an exceptional learner, you may want to consider attending.
Many thanks to all of you for taking the time to attend the volunteer assembly on Friday. It was a hoot! Fantastic presentations by our students! Excellent food! Excellent company, all of you! Many thanks to Jennifer Marks, Shawna O'Connor, and Cristina Blouin, for leading the way with this event. Additional shouts go out to Lynn Meza and our Service Council for their support.
Odyssey of the Mind families
Wishing our four Odyssey of the Mind teams the best of luck next week! Warm fuzzies to all. I really wish I could be there for support but our family is heading out of the country for the week for a long needed break. Last year was amazing and I know this year will be just as much! Blow their socks off folks!
Supporting our neighborhood residents, another act of kindness!
This week, Ms. Sakellar's class created 50 Valentines that were delivered to the residents at Aegis Senior Assisted Living Center. Michelle Baumert & Lisa Sanchez-O'Brien along with their children, delivered them. One of the older men cried when Jack O'Brien handed it to him.
"It felt nice being generous and doing something for people who don't see a lot of people," Jack said.
They were quite moved & the elderly residents were thrilled. This was a really rewarding experience as it helped to brighten someone's day!
If your child has helped to support the comunity in some way please do not hesitate to let me know. Recognition for the excellent work of our children is a sign of excellent citizenship and a significant aspect of our school vision.
