Meet the Principal

Meet the Principal

unnamed2Welcome! Bienvenido!

Whether you are new to our school this year or returning once again, we are excited to have you and your child as a part of our "school family." Many of you may already be aware that Mary Silveira Elementary is a unique place for children and adults to learn. With its warm, caring staff, small class size, balanced focus, and child-centered atmosphere, our goal is to work together to meet the needs of every child. "The best interests of students" guides our work here at Mary Silveira Elementary. This is reflected in our daily work with children, instructional programming, support and intervention programs, and the professional development in which we engage on early release Wednesdays.

Here is a little about me: I have been in the field of education since 1996. I began my career in San Francisco, as a 3rd grade public school teacher before shifting to the Jefferson School District, Daly City, where I taught grades 4-8 for several years. I transitioned to administration as a middle School Assistant Principal at Fernando Rivera Middle School, Jefferson Elementary District, where I spent 3 amazing years working with one of the most beautiful and diverse populations. I then accepted a position as Principal at Marjorie Tobias Elementary School where I remained for 3 years. Then, in 2010, I accepted the position of Principal here at Mary Silveira and have remained happily since 2010.

Education is it for me. It is a passion and a love. There is nothing else more important, more nourishing, that supporting children in their academic and social/emotional maturation. Watching them transition from one grade to the next, learning and absorbing together, is what keeps me inspired and motivated.

My wife, Andrea, and I have been married since 2005 and have one amazing child, Jude Anderson, who currently attends Miller Creek Middle School (2016). Andrea is a 5th grade teacher in Mill Valley and together we live in the warm confines of Terra Linda. As a family we enjoy traveling the world, heading to movies, taking road trips with no destinations in mind, watching sports (Jude and I), cooking (Andrea is the most talented and creative chef I know, hands down!), and spending time with friends and family.

As far as our school is concerned, the outstanding faculty and staff at Silveira are committed to providing learning opportunities for all of our students. We are bent on challenging and supporting all students to reach their academic, social and emotional potential. We work towards this goal through:

  1. Providing students with engaging 21st century learning curriculum
  2. Providing students with leadership opportunities
  3. Providing students "augmented programs" such as technology, art, library, and music
  4. Providing students a safe environment to learn
  5. Providing students opportunities to take risks
  6. Providing robust counseling services
  7. Providing students with credentialed, motivated, and inspiring teachers
  8. Providing teachers with collaborative planning opportunities
  9. Providing teachers with professional development opportunities
  10. Providing parents opportunities to share leadership

On behalf of all of our staff here at MES, we welcome and encourage you to check in with us to see how you can become involved with our school.

Sincerely,

Will Anderson
