Mary Silveira Principal Interviews
Thursday is set with several excellent and qualified candidates lined up and an all star interview team of school staff, parents, and district office folks. For those who attended the meeting last week with our Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Yamashiro, thank you for your valuable input. He is 100% bent on capturing the most qualified person, someone prepared to work with staff and community to move the school in new and exciting directions.
The person hired will be inheriting a stable and productive team of teachers, a warm and collaborative parent team, and a gaggle of children excited about learning! The foundation is ready for additional work to be done!
Awards Assembly Agenda - Friday, 8:30-9:30am - Please join us!
This annual event is an opportunity for us to pause and recognize our students and outgoing staff members for their work over the year. We hope you will take a few minutes of your day and join us. This year's agenda will include the following:
Final Starbucks Certificates: To those students who have turned in their five Starbucks to the office in the last few weeks, they will be recognized. If your child has them and has not turned them in yet, please help remind them to bring them to the office before Thursday of this week so they can be recognized. If they forget, they can turn them in next year.
Consistent Achiever Award Winners: Two 5th grade students are selected by our staff for their hard work, diligence, positive attitude, and perseverance throughout the year.
Service Council Kindness Video: This year's 3rd-5th grade Service Council will be sharing a video that puts a cap on this year's Kindness efforts of our entire team this year. Thank you Alison Hutchens for leading this team this year.
Staff Recognition: Lynn Charton, Monica Ramirez, Leslie Birnbaum, Laura Wilson and Tara Costello will be recognized and thanked for the passion and skill sets they brought to the classroom over their years with us.
Physical Education Award Winners: Two K-5 boys and girls from each grade were selected by our PE teachers for their consistent work effort during the year (24 total students).
School-Wide Jobs Award Winners: 3rd-5th grade students who participated in the School-Wide Jobs program are recognized for their work over the course of the year. We are very proud of their efforts!
Wendy Blanton Kindness Award Winners: This is the first year for this award and established in honor of our beloved Wendy Blanton who passed away earlier this year. One boy and girl from 5th grade are selected for their outstanding kindness throughout the year and will walk away with an engraved award as well as having their name immortalized on a plaque that will hang in our office. Both awards will be shared at this event and award winners will play a part in the Promotion ceremony. Know that this was very challenging to select only two students worthy of this recognition. This class was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G making that much harder.
Magic Penny: This annual buddy to 5th grade buddy, and final Mary Silveira Song singing for the year. While this has traditionally been a student event, feel free to join us!
2017-2018 Volunteer of the Year - RACHEL KNOPF!
It is my great honor and pleasure to introduce you to our honored 2017-2018, Volunteer of the Year, Rachel Knopf! Over her 12 years at Mary Silveira she has been our MESHSA president, a Can Do Representative for Silveira, volunteered in our classrooms, attended field trips, supported and managed countless MESHSA events, volunteered as a garden lead, and was even one of our prized PE teachers for a few years! The real conundrum are staff faced with was, "...was there anything she did not have her hands on during her time here?". The answer was, no! More than anything, she never craved the spotlight and if up to her, would not accept this award. We are lucky to have had her for the many years she was with us, 12 years to be exact. Mary Silveira is the better for her presence on our campus and with our children.
Memory Books are running out with a few weeks to go
$25 a book until they are sold out and with about 50 left we will be out within the week. http://shop.balfour.com/smi95324/catalog/category/view/s/yearbook-and-accessories/id/312795/
Field Day is coming!
Mary Silveira is known for its most excellent community activities and guess what...here comes our last one for the year and one that is out of this world: Field Day! But we need volunteers to help us with all sorts of fun games and events such as jumpies, Extreme Pie Tossing at Mr. Anderson and Staff, Dunk Tanks, Face Painting, Basketball, Football, Frisbee, Volleyball, etc. Click here to offer your services on June 13th!
Dixie District Odyssey of the Mind Teams successful run at the World Competition - WOW!!!!
Mary Silveira is undergoing construction over summer - Last day for campus access for all students, staff, and community, is Friday, June 15th
There will be no access to the site during the summer months and while there are always questions related to time lines as relates to construction projects, we have every reason to be optimistic about s smooth transition into the 2018 school year with classrooms prepared for our incoming students in August. The construction team was vetted carefully and have been highly communicative with our team from the start of the process.
Here are a few of the projects they will be working on over the summer and what you will expect to see when school begins:
- Middle Courtyard: Reconfigured layout supporting easier access and upgraded drainage, improved seating in the grade 1-5 lunch area as well as replacing the old lunch seating with new tables. All will be ADA accessible. This will add practical value as well as curbside appeal.
- Library Rebuild: Pulling everything out and rebuilding the infrastructure including new layout, paint, flooring, lighting, Audio/Visual upgrades, window treatments, and potential skylights.
- Modernized Classrooms: Ceilings, lighting, Audio/Visual upgrades, insulation, flooring, signage, interior walls w/ and upgraded tack boards (Note this is not for the portables)
- Bathrooms: Bathroom closet in kindergarten, reconfigure bathrooms for accessibility in Admin, accessible upgrades to bathrooms as needed.
- Kindergarten Classrooms (Ms. Lum and Mrs. Franklin's room): Adding a new interior Kindergarten wall between room 8-9 (replacing the old one currently in place).
