Life Skill Assembly Review
Friday morning we made meery with song, had our Zero Waste team present updates on recycling best practices, Mrs. Jones 2nd grade class shared Science Project process, watched Kid President Video regarding the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and we recognized Star Buck Winners. Really adorable.
Thank you to our MESHSA team, for their snacks and coffee!

Talent Showcase is coming
This is one of my favorite events of the year as students have the opportunity to shine in ways we do not typically see at school and to exhibit/practice important life skills such as Courage and Leadership. I shared with students the details including dates, performance ideas, and group expectations. There are no winners or awards for this event and in no way is this considered a contest.
Talent Showcase Philosophy: I emphasized with students that our final selected performing team will be pulling for one another from start (Audition Day, January 18th) to finish (Performance evening). When a student or team struggles along the way or during an audition, my expectation is that we rally for that student or team. A hug, high five, supportive comment, clapping, etc. This event is 100% void of drama and negative feedback and if I see it I will provide warnings. If it continues, I will not hesitate to notify parents and dismiss the act. My goal is for my students to pull together as one. Students and parents have always risen to that challenge.
Parent Role: The leader of our Talent Showcase this year is our superstar MES parent, Sibel Demirmen. She is a gifted perfromance artist and has given of her time to our children over the last several years and we are grateful. She has a team of energetic parents but if you are interested in jumping on board with our production this year, please do not hesitate to contact me. We are always looking for more support and would love to have you on the team. The only thing we ask for is for a positive vibe, a good sense of humor, and a creative eye. We are always looking to infuse new ideas and creativity into our productions.
JANUARY 12th: Audition Forms due to the office. We have more in the office if you need another (Not to teachers)
JANUARY 18th: Mandatory Talent Showcase Auditions, 2:35pm-5:00pm (There is little reason for our team to say no to a student/team other than they have nothing at the audition. They will need your help to get things going. Later we will provide a little support and coaching but do have them come in to the audition ready with something. It does not have to be their final act. If singing or dancing, lyrics must be clean and music must be provided).
FEBRUARY 15TH: After School. Team check in for those needing extra support
MARCH 6th: Dress Rehearsal
MARCH 8th: Talent Showcase evening

Supporting our children with allergies...
Mary Silveira Elementary is a school that prides itself on not only providing all students the finest education, but also ensuring their well-being and safety. This school year we have a number of students with food allergies some potentially life-threatening. While some children may experience a stuffy nose and watery eyes, other children develop more severe reactions. In the most severe cases, anaphylactic shock can occur within seconds of coming into contact with the nut product. Several of our children have strict guidelines in place to prevent these severe allergic reactions. This is where we need your support. We are asking for your help this year to provide all of our children with a safe school environment by considering not sending any peanut or nut containing products to school with your child. If this cannot be avoided, please remind your children not to share food with others.
On the school side, we continue to educate and remind our students that we do not share food and they have been responding well. Our school nurse has met with our teachers and instructional yard duty personnel to educate and support. We are very fortunate that our School Lunch program, Choice Lunch, is Nut Free. We thank you in advance for your understanding and consideration in helping us maintain a safe and healthy environment for all of our students. Alternative snack ideas.....
